The Korean national U-18 men's basketball team has advanced to the quarterfinals of the 27th International Basketball Federation (FIBA) U-18 Asia Cup.

Korea easily defeated Iran 83-60 in the third match of Group B held in Amman, Jordan on the 4th (local time).

Lee Je-won scored 21 points, including three 3-pointers, and Son Yu-chan added 17 points (five rebounds, three assists) to lead Korea to victory.

Korea, which won three consecutive matches in the group stage, pushed Iran to second place (2 wins, 1 loss) and advanced to the quarterfinals.

Korea will be looking to win its second consecutive title after the 한국을 2022 Iran tournament.

Korea fell behind by one point in the first quarter, but turned the game around in the second quarter and went into the third quarter with a four-point lead.

Korea, which pushed hard with Lee Je-won at the forefront, widened the score to 46-33 with about 8 minutes left in the 3rd quarter and did not allow Iran to catch up until the end.

Iran's Amirmakhyar Keramati put in a fight, scoring 25 points, but could not stop Korea.

Lee Ji-won said, "Since the Iranian players are tall and strong, we had a hard time with physical contact and rebounding," adding, "However, as we played in the preliminary matches, our shooting sense has gradually improved, and the atmosphere came alive when we succeeded in a three-point shot in the middle of the second quarter, when the game was in a seesaw situation."

Korea won the tournament in Iran two years ago, beating the home team Iran in the quarterfinals.

Korea will play the winner of the Jordan-Qatar match in the quarterfinals on the 7th.

South Korea coach Jung Seung-won said, "It won't make a difference whichever team we face. In the match against Iran, we played a blocking defense that stopped certain players, but I think we can win the quarterfinals with the offense and defense we've prepared for so far."
